Restaurant Cafe van Puffelen is located on the Prinsengracht. In the middle of the Jordaan district, in the area around the characteristic ’Negen Straatjes’ (nine little streets): they couldn’t have had a better location. Once just a small and authentic Amsterdam ‘bruin cafe’ (brown bar), but after a couple of expansions Restaurant Cafe van Puffelen has become a hotspot in the city and a place that every ‘Amsterdammer’ knows. Therefore, Van Puffelen is visited by a variety of people: from locals to students and from tourists to families.

Restaurant Café Van Puffelen will be opened on December 26th and January 1st for lunch and dinner. On December 26th (the Dutch holiday ‘Second day of Christmas’) we will serve a special five course menu for 44,50 euros per person, aside from our regular à la carte-menu.

Asian marinated tuna tartar with sesame seeds and wasabi mayonnaise served on red chili ‘kroepoek’
Haddock seared skin side with boksoi and shrimp risotto, lemon grass-coconut sauce and lotus root chips
Quail broth with ravioli stuffed with duck confit, served with fried quail breast and a quail leg confit
Tournedos with duck liver, parsnip puree and Brussel sprouts, stir fried wild spinach and morel sauce
Chocolate cake tower with raspberries, ‘kletskop’, hazelnut mousse and white chocolate ice cream

Local and organic products at Van Puffelen
Available soon at Restaurant Van Puffelen: beer produced by the Amsterdam brewery Brouwerij ‘t IJ. The Zatte is a ‘triple’, the category reserved for the stronger, blond beers in Belgian tradition. It is a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste.
Van Puffelen prefers to work with local and organic products. We serve Hoeksche Rooie potatoes (a sustainably grown, recognized regional potato from the Hoeksche Waard area) and we only work with free range eggs. Our veal comes from calves that are fully organically bred at Eco Fields farm in the Veluwe village of Wekerom, and the beef from the Lindenhoff farm in Baambrugge. Also, we serve bread from Vanmenno and ‘bitterballen’ (a typical Dutch snack) with a three star ‘Better Life’-mark. For more information, please visit our ‘ Partners‘ page.
Divided over two monumental canal houses, in Van Puffelen you can enjoy a relaxed and tasteful dinner in the restaurant and have a drink in the cosy bar. The restaurant has a stylish but intimate atmosphere and the menu offers a variety of ‘honest’ dishes: fish, meat and vegetarian. The kitchen mainly serves the French/Italian inspired cuisine, but also serves dishes with an oriental touch. The wine list is juist as international and diverse. You can see our menu here.

The cafe is the place where it al started in the eighties: a ‘bruine kroeg’ (brown pub) with a few tables. The bar still breathes this atmosphere of a genuine Amsterdam pub. You can choose from a wide selection of draft beers.
Van Puffelen is the place for an evening with beers and friends, to have lunch on the canal side terrace during a sunny summer day, or ‘borrelen’ (to have drinks) with, of course, typical Dutch bitterballen (dutch meatballs). The bar is also thé best location in the center of Amsterdam to have a birthday party or a graduation party.
Restaurant Cafe van Puffelen is open for dinner and drinks daily and for lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
